From my early days in law enforcement and throughout my career in the security field I came to realize the importance of “networking” with my colleagues in the same profession.
There are many benefits to networking.
When you network with others in your profession it gives you perspective, you find out that your problems are not that unique. At times you find out that others have already faced many of the challenges that lie ahead for you and found unique ways to deal with them.
You learn by their experiences and they from you.
And the best thing is you can steal…I mean “borrow” their ideas; it avoids “reinventing the wheel”, saving time, headaches and money.
This was one of the chief complaints I heard when I entered the Christian security area and one I experienced myself.
When I became Chief Security Officer for a ministry I automatically “reached out” to my counterparts in similar Christian organizations. And although I was able to network with a few, the vast majority of the time my calls went unanswered.
This was one of the reasons we created the Christian Security Network – the last word is important – NETWORK.
As we bring in more people into this network of Christians who have concerns over security and emergency planning in their own organizations, we hear similar comments.
One member wrote:
“I am really interested in networking with other security professionals from other churches. I have been able to develop a few relationships, but most Directors don't return calls or emails, which is quite frustrating.”
Another wrote:
“We connect well in our area of the country, but have no way to reach out beyond that”
One Pastor told me:
“We (Christian Pastors) really don’t communicate well in my area….”
One of the reasons the Christian Security Network created a forums area for our members is so that ideas may be shared, incidents reported, successes and failures communicated – all to benefit each other.
Our forum area is a secure area of our website and the forums is an important tool for communication and connecting.
We know we don’t have all the answers to the issues of security and emergency planning, if anyone tells you that they do, they are kidding themselves.
But we do know that the answers are out there among the family of believers, our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Get connected today and begin to network with your fellow Christians.
Take advantage of this network we have started!
In Christ, Jeff Hawkins Executive Director
